We continue our tour with a stop in Modesto, California to see the Modesto Nuts the Adavanced A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. Our trip has been busy and non-stop but we have to continue traveling and making this trip well worth it. The drive from Oakland to Modesto was a whooping 3 hours on account we hit some struggling traffic on our way to Modesto. We arrived at John Thurman Park 5 minutes before the game began and didn't get to see much of the pre-game festivities.
The Modesto Nuts became the Rockies Advanced A affiliate in 2005 and call John Thurman Field home. John Thurman Field was constructed/opened in 1955. Prior to the Rockies the Nuts belonged to the Oakland Athletics which was when they first adopted the name “The Nuts” the reason why they adopted the name was on account the city of Modesto is known for the vast variety of nuts that grow in the area.
The Modesto Nuts call John Thurman Field home and have been since 1955, before the name was changed in 1983 to John Thurman Field was known as Del Webb Field. The name wasn't the only thing that changed in 1983, the field also received a $3.93 million renovation in order to keep to the California League standards.
Tickets and Parking:
Parking at this ballpark was only $5 which is becoming regular trend at Adavanced A Affiliate teams through out the league. Since the team is an Adavanced A- Affiliate tickets are cheap and offer great benefits when purchasing premium seating. The Modest Nuts offer front row seating for only $12. The great part about these tickets is that you receive a full waiter with your ticket. This is a great deal because the Modesto Nuts have a full menu, “the biggest menu that we have seen in minor league baseball.” They offer entrees
Overall John Thurman Field is an awesome small town park, full of friendly people and food to die for. The atmosphere is very some town friendly and gives people a place to relax and enjoy a ballgame. The best part of the park is all the choices one has for food, by far this park had some of the most amazing food choices and made it exciting to go to the concessions stand. We truly recommend all our readers to enjoy it.
