Organization: Houston Astros
Current Team: Fresno Grizzlies College: LSU Drafted: 2015: 1st round No. 2 Overall The Houston Astros are an organization that thrive off young players. Most of the team’s recent success is built off a strong farm system through their minor league affiliates. Fresno Grizzlies Shortstop Alex Bregman is another case that Houston knows how to draft and develop talent. Strengths: Bregman knows how to plain out hit. This year with Triple-A Corpus Christi Hooks, he raked 14 home runs with 46 RBIs in just 62 games. Bregman was recently called up to Triple-AAA affiliate Fresno Grizzlies. It was a seamless transition for Bregman as he is hitting .538 in just three games with Fresno. If Bregman continues the hot streak behind the plate with the Grizzlies he could be called up in no time. Comparisons: A streaky hitter that plays shortstop well? The easy comparison is Dustin Pedroia of the Boston Red Sox. Only problem is Houston is pretty set for years to come at the shortstop position with Carlos Correa. However, if the Astros are close to a pennant race and need timely hitting then Bregman could be a possibility. And especially as a member of a 40-man playoff roster in which you can’t get enough hitting in the postseason.
