Light tower power: Seager Hr to extend the lead

At this point in the season we can see who is set to win awards at the end of the season. Dodgers' youngster Corey Seager is setting the stage to win the Rookie of the Year considering that Trevor Story went down with a thumb injury mid way through the season. At this point through the season Seager is positing himself to also take another award home, the MVP.

Seager has been one of the most electric rookies this season and has been the staple for the Dodgers on both sides of the ball. Los Angeles is currently in first place in the NL West. The Dodgers have taken full advantage of the struggling Giants, mostly due to the young Seager. Currently Seager is ranked third in WAR (Wins Above Replacement) at 7.1, meaning that the Dodgers will lose 7 games without Seager on the team. This equates to the Giants-leading NL West by 4 games.

Seager leads all Major League Baseball rookies in Avg. (.316) HR (24) OPS (.377) and RBI’s  (65). These stats are not just great for rookies but also among active MLB players. Seager has legitimate odds of winning the MVP, especially considering the situation the Dodgers are in.

Through the course of history the MVP voting has leaned in different directions. An example of this can be 2011 where another Dodger found himself in the MVP race. In 2011 Matt Kemp found himself in the middle of an MVP race with Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun. At the end of that year Ryan Braun came out with the coveted award because the Brewers were seen as a team that would not make the playoffs without Ryan Braun. Although Kemp had amazing statistics for the season, the Dodgers we seen as a strong team which kept Kemp from taking home the crown. If this trend continues Seager may be poised for the MVP crown.
